Forms of Solidarity: Tolocar

The term Tolocar is a portmanteau of the words ‘toloka’ and ‘car’. In Ukrainian, toloka is a traditional form of solidarity where a community comes together to perform a task collectively. A Tolocar in this project context  is a Mobile Makerspace, a van equipped with with conventional and digital fabrication tools.

The Tolocar project

The project acts as a supporting mechanism for initiatives in Ukraine are engaged in any form of civilian (re)construction work and  to help organizations in designing and implementing educational measures like  trainings, workshops or creative activities.

Various partners work together in different projects like reconstruction and renovation, open production, knowledge transfer and innovation to strenghten the eco-system of Ukraine. The aim is to enable communities to replicate some of the capabilities and so to catalyze rebuilding efforts and establish support networks. >>> please check: Tolocar website

The Tolocar project is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. icebauhaus was commissioned to support the overall conceptual framework and implementation process in 2022 and 2023.
